Comments: My grandmother, Julia Connolly, left Airdrie as a teenager to travel to the US. Her parents, Bernard Connolly, and Julia Malone, were married at St. Margaret’s on Feb. 10, 1873. She had siblings–Mary, Winifred, William, Bernard, & more whose names I don’t know. It’s wonderful to see the pictures of my great-grandparent’s parish. I can’t help but wonder what my grandmother would think about the ability to see her old church and read its history. Maybe she still has family being baptized and married there. Thank you for the website.

Comments: My twin great grand-aunts Elizabeth and Ann Clark were baptised here in 1851.

I’m wondering if the Clark children went to school at St. Margaret’s. They were John Clark (in Scotland 1851-1868), Mary Clark (b 1848) and the twins.

Elizabeth died in 1861, so never made it to high school. John emigrated to America in 1868. Parents were Michael Clark & Mary Smith.

Comments: Sixty Years since I left Scotland You can take me physically out of Airdrie but never my soul and heart despite the appalling conditions I was raised in there.

Mr McNamara the Headmaster and Miss Heany in the White House at St Margarets are fond memories. Also Mr Steele and Mr White and Mr Breen.

Father McGlinchey was my mother’s favourite priest.

Comments: I am doing genealogy research into the McDougall side of my family. My cousin, Ellen McDougall married Thomas Burns in St. Margaret’s Church about 1953 and I believe their eight children were also baptised in the church. Thomas died 10 April 1958 and Ellen much later. It would appear that the parents and children lived on Hamilton Drive, Airdrie. It must have been a beautiful wedding, as the pictures of the church are wonderful. One of my certificates shows a marriage between Samuel George Dempsey and Elaine Guild (parents Robert Guild and Susan Burns 5th August 2006. I wonder if it would be possible to get a message to any family member that I am trying to contact them. I am quite willing to share my 25 years of research into the McDougall side of the family:) In exchange I would love to have a photograph of any of the family. My contact info: janadama@yahoo.ca or Janet Farmer 19 Joyce Crescent, Belleville, ON K8N 1Y6 or tel: 613-966-9738. I would be grateful if you would let me know if you are not able to look after this matter on my behalf. Merry Christmas to all Janet Farmer

Comments: I was baptized in St. Margaret’s on the 30th of May, 1943 aged 6 days by the Reverend Daniel McGlinchey, RIP. I attended St. Margaret’s Primary from 1948 during the headship of Mr Edward McNamara, RIP. My father, William was a brother in St. Margaret’s Conference of the SVDP Society and thereafter St. Serf’s for over 52 years, RIP. My uncle Walter received his first Holy Communion on the 9th of April 1914 from the Reverend Hubert van Stiphout of happy memory. Uncle Walter died aged 18 years, RIP. My paternal grandmother, Sarah and her sister Mary Ann Scott walked to Mass every morning from Glenmavis until they were a great age, may they rest in peace. I could go on, but I’ll spare you. The church is well served by its clergy, and the quality of both homilies and hymn singing is gratifying. It is always an uplifting experience to return.
